The Acapelicans hold open auditions at the beginning of fall semester and the end of winter semester, in September and April respectively. On occasion, we hold auditions in January depending on the needs of the group. Look for audition postings around campus, our website, our Facebook page and also our Twitter. Auditions are brief and low-key. Anyone auditioning is asked to prepare a short musical selection (a verse and a chorus) of their choice to be performed a cappella (big surprise) for the group. Your selection should best reflect who you are a musician. You may also be asked to do some vocalises, sight reading and tonal memory exercises. At the end of your audition we will teach you part of one of our songs and you'll get to sing with us so we can see how well you hold your own vocal part and blend with the group. We rehearse Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12pm-1pm. It is crucial that you are able to attend all rehearsals. If you are accepted into the group but cannot attend all rehearsals your group membership will be forfeited. It is advisable for everyone auditioning for the group to be familiar with a cappella singing, particularly contemporary collegiate a cappella. We hope to see you at one of our auditions soon!
